About Me

Damodance is an artistic company dedicated to telling powerful stories through African traditional dance, contemporary movement, theatre, and creative performance.

Rooted in African heritage and inspired by contemporary experiences, our work explores identity, culture, migration, resilience, human connection, and the evolving relationship between tradition and modern life. We see movement not simply as performance, but as a language , one capable of preserving history, expressing emotion, challenging perspectives, and creating meaningful connections between people and communities.

At the heart of Damodance is a commitment to African traditional movement forms, including the rhythm, energy, symbolism, and storytelling found within dances such as Bata and other culturally rooted practices. We bring these traditions into conversation with contemporary dance, physical theatre, poetry, music, and interdisciplinary performance, creating work that honours where we come from while exploring where artistic expression can go next.

Our performances are shaped by storytelling. Every gesture, rhythm, costume, expression, and movement carries meaning. Whether on a theatre stage, at a cultural festival, within a community space, or through collaborative artistic projects, we aim to create experiences that audiences can both witness and feel.

Damodance also believes in collaboration and cultural exchange. We work with dancers, actors, musicians, poets, theatre practitioners, cultural organisations, and communities to develop performances that cross artistic boundaries and bring different creative voices together.

Our vision is to contribute to a future where African artistic traditions remain visible, respected, evolving, and internationally celebrated. By preserving cultural memory while embracing experimentation, Damodance creates a meeting point between heritage and contemporary creativity.

We are not only performing tradition , we are carrying it forward.

Through movement, storytelling, and collaboration, Damodance continues to create work that connects the past with the present and transforms cultural heritage into living artistic expression.
